Maple Heights September 8, 2015 Primary

Maple Heights News has submitted a questionnaires to candidates who will be on the September 8, 2015 Primary ballot for the Mayoral Race and the District 7 City Council Seat. In each race the two candidates who accumulate the most votes will advance to the November 3, 2015 General Election.

The 5 Mayoral Candidates: Annette Blackwell, Bill Brownlee, Donald Grossmyer, Neomia Mitchell and Frank Rives were asked questions about:

  • their stance on the possible traffic camera charter amendment
  • their stance on the senior center levy
  • the city administration’s transparency
  • to rate 5 city services from most to least important
  • whether they agreed or disagreed with two statements:
    • one relating to people’s opinion of the school’s and
    • the other about demolition vs. rehabbing a home

The 3 District 7 City Council Candidates: Edwina Agee, Colleen Scott and Celestine Wilburn were asked questions about:

  • the primary responsibility of a council person
  • their stance on the senior center levy
  • their stance on the possible traffic camera charter amendment
  • if they’d read the city’s charter
  • if they support or oppose improving the city’s online presence to promote communication and accessibility of information to residents

Results of the questionnaires will be published on September 2, 2015 at 8 PM.

In July the Maple Heights Democratic Club hosted a forum in which the Mayoral Candidates were given 10 minutes each introduce themselves and their plan (part 1). A Q&A time followed (part 2). Those videos are available below:

    Have any of the candidates posted what their education/degree has focus on running a city?

      Bill Brownlee will have a degree Public Administration (completion Dec 2015).
      Neomia Mitchell has a BS in Business Administration.
