Who is Running for City Council, Council President and Mayor in Maple Heights in 2015?

This was last updated October 23, 2015 to show which Mayoral Candidates moved on to the November 3rd General Election.

Candidates for Mayor

Mayor Lansky is NOT seeking re-election.

  • Annette Blackwell, who ran unsuccessfully in 2013 for City Council for District 1. Blackwell was appointed by Mayor Lansky to the 2011 Charter Review Commission. Certified candidate*.
  • District 5 Councilman, Bill Brownlee, who is in his first city council term, will be “giving up” his seat to run for Mayor. Certified candidate*.
Blackwell and Brownlee were the top two vote getters in the September 8 primary and therefore advanced to the November 8th primary.
  • Donald Grossmyer, has pulled petitions. Donald has been a Police Officer for the Maple Heights Police Department for almost 25 years. Certified candidate*.
  • Neomia Mitchell, former 2 term District 7 City Councilwoman. This will be Mitchell’s third time running for Mayor after losing to Mayor Lansky in 2011 and 2007. Certified candidate*.
  • Frank M. Rives, has pulled petitions. Rives has run unsuccessfully for City Council (2003, 2005) Mayor (2007) and School Board (2001) in the past. Certified candidate*.
Since there are more than two candidates there WILL be a September 8, 2015 Primary for the Mayoral race.

Candidates for Council President

Council President Jackie Albers told The Real Deal that she will NOT be seeking re-election.

  • Aaron Mitchell served on the 2011 Charter Review Commission. He also ran unsuccessfully for Councilman of District 5 in 2011. Mitchell . Certified candidate*.
  • 3 term District 6 Councilman Richard Trojanski is a Certified Candidate.

Candidates for City Council 

District 1:

Councilman Adams told The Real Deal he will NOT be seeking re-election.

  • Stafford Shenett who ran unsuccessfully in 2013 is seeking the position again and has been endorsed by Adams. Since then, Shenett has been appointed to Planning and Zoning. If he is elected he will leave a vacant seat on the Planning and Zoning Commission which expires in 2019.Certified candidate*.

District 2

  • Councilwoman Toni Jones was first elected to council in 2007. Certified Candidate*.
  • Thomas Coyle. Certified Candidate*.

District 3

Councilman Cefaratti announced at a council meeting that he will NOT be seeking re-election.

  • Christian Ostenson, a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission has pulled petitions. If he is elected he will leave a vacant seat on the Planning and Zoning Commission which expires in 2017. Certified Candidate*.
  • Ebony Miller. Certified Candidate*.

District 4

  • Councilman Jackson is in his first term on City Council. Certified Candidate*.
  • Dolly Lewis. Certified Candidate*.

District 5

Councilman Brownlee is NOT seeking re-election, but instead has pulled petitions for the Mayoral race.

  • Tanglyn Madden. Certified Candidate*.

District 6

Councilman Trojanski is NOT seeking re-election, but instead has pulled petitions for the Council President race.

  • Richard Clark, II. Certified Candidate*.
  • Sharri Thomas. Certified Candidate*.

District 7

  • Councilwoman, Edwina Agee, who is currently serving her first term on council. Certified candidate*.
  • Celestine Wilburn. Wilburn led the charge to get the traffic cameras on the ballot last fall. The Charter Amendment which was approved by voters 3-1. Certified Candidate*.
  • Colleen Scott. Certified Candidate. Candidate Withdrew
Since there are more than two candidates there WILL be a September 8, 2015 Primary for the District 7 Councilperson race. Scott withdrew too late for the primary to be cancelled.
