May 25, 2014

Noise disturbance calls: 11

2:27am – Complainant from Maple Hts. Blvd. reported a male in his backyard that has been shot. The complainant does not know who the shooter is or where he/she may be.  An additional call was received from an employee of Marathon (on Warrs Center) reporting someone is possibly shot behind the business and there are people running in the area.  Marymount, Bedford and South Pointe hospitals were notified to contact our dept if they have a gunshot victim at the hospitals 2:52am – Marymount hospital called and reported a male came in with a gunshot wound to the foot. The patient stated he was at the Weave Lounge, on Warrensville Ctr. Rd., went outside and heard shots.  He was allegedly shot in the foot as he was running away on Warrensville Ctr. Rd.  The victim’s clothing is being tested for gun shot residue.

Noise disturbance calls: 7

1:13am – Euclid PD notified Maple Hts. PD of shots fired in their city and that the male who fired the shots is texting that he is at Southgate with a bulletproof vest waiting to finish the job.  The suspect vehicle was located in the Giant Eagle rear parking lot, the suspect was inside and appeared to be sleeping.  Officers approached the vehicle and took the subject into custody.  An arrest was made and the subject was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and having a weapon while intoxicated.

9:37am – Complainant from Waterbury Ave. reported a theft from his vehicle.  Sometime between midnight and the time of call, an unknown party entered the UNLOCKED vehicle and stole $41 dollars from it and his son’s Social Security card.

6:07pm – Complainant from Elmwood Ave. reported a broken window in the rear of his neighbor’s residence and says the person who lives there is not answering the door.  Officers made entry through broken window and called the homeowner with information provided by Monitronics Alarms.  The homeowner said the window was not broken when he left on Friday, also stated that he is on his way home and will contact police when he’s home.  Side door was secured.  The suspect left the house when the alarm was sounded.

Noise disturbance calls: 1

2:08am – Caller stated that a female just drove her car into a residence on Clement St., headed down Clement to Maple Hts Blvd and then turned west on Maple Hts Blvd. The homeowner’s ex-girlfriend was the driver who struck his home and she was possibly en route to a friends home.  Officers located the vehicle heading North on Lee and stopped the suspect vehicle where the driver was arrested and charged with criminal damaging.  The homeowner had 2 warrants and was also arrested.

9:03am – Caller from Broadway Ave. reported several vehicles were broken into.  Incident took place at the Allen Auto Body on Broadway where the suspect cut a hole in the fence and targeted vehicles belonging to both the Auto Body shop and customers.  Detective Bureau was requested, evidence and fingerprints were collected from two vehicles.  Total of about 18 vehicles were broken into.

7:17pm – An anonymous complainant informed police of a male with a warrant with Maple Hts. could be found at a residence on Greenhurst Dr.  The caller stated that he just spoke with the subjects wife so he believes the male should be home.  Police were dispatched to the residence and saw the suspect before the door was closed.  The suspect refused to exit the home and per Chief Popielarczyk, SWAT was called out.  Crisis Intervention Team was also called out.  Ultimately SWAT entered the residence and took custody of the suspect.  Both the suspect and his wife were arrested.

Noise disturbance calls: 1

5:15am – Complainant on Rockside Rd. stated that someone just broke into his home.  The complainant is handicapped and in bed.  Caller heard a few knocks on the door, and then a loud bang when the front door was kicked in. Complainant saw someone with a flashlight in the dining room. Complainant who was in his bedroom armed himself with a hunting knife, grabbed his medical walker and went to investigate.  Complainant believes the suspect(s) left his home because he did not see anyone.  Officers responded and checked point of entry where they found the door frame broken.  Since nothing was disturbed inside residence, it was determined that the suspect(s) must have been scared off by the resident. Homeowner will contact insurance provider.

4:06pm – Complainant from Lisa Dr. reported theft of patio furniture.  Officers spoke with the complainant who stated that after leaving for work, his niece stopped at his house and informed him that his patio furniture was missing. The complainant stated that when he arrived home, he observed that someone had taken a patio set with a table and six chairs, three stools and an older black gas grill. The complainant attempted to speak with neighbors but no one was home at the time of the incident. The complainant just wanted this documented at this time. No further police action is requested at this time.

Noise disturbance calls: 1

7:35pm – Call received from the IR 480/Northfield Rd. area from a male reporting that his wife assaulted him and he pushed her out of the vehicle.  Squad responded, vehicle was towed and the male was arrested for domestic violence.

Our police officers need and appreciate help from us as they can’t be at all places at all times. 10:05pm –  Complainant from the Dunham Rd./Granger Rd. area reported a blue van driving very recklessly on Rockside Road.  Vehicle was headed Northbound on Dunham from Rockside, the complainant is no longer following the vehicle now.  Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.  Another call was received at 10:22pm reporting that another driver was following the same vehicle which is once again Eastbound on Rockside approaching Dunham. Officers located and stopped the vehicle on Dunham Rd./Granger.  The driver was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence.

10:30pm – Male calling from Maple Hts. Blvd. reporting at least 10 people fighting. The caller hung up before further information could be obtained.  Upon officers arrival they needed to deploy pepper spray and 2 suspects were arrested.  Both suspects were charged with disorderly conduct.  One suspect also had a warrant from Garfield Hts. for disorderly conduct and failure to appear.

May 30, 2014

1:33am – Garfield Hts PD advised that there is a car parked on the wrong side of the road in the area of Dunham and Rockside. Kelly’s towed the vehicle which appeared to have been in an accident and is now disabled.   The vehicle owner called our department advising that he let one of his friends from work borrow his car and his friend walked back to work advising him that his car broke down and left the car at Rockside & Dunham. Officers located the driver of the vehicle and made an arrest.  The subject was charged with hit-skip, driving under suspension and reckless operation.  The subject also had warrants with Bedford and Sheffield police.

11:45am – Female from Maplepark Dr. reported her vehicle was broken into.  Unknown party entered vehicle and took a phone charger, sometime between 6pm the day before and 11am today.  Per the complainant, the vehicle was most likely UNLOCKED.

6:37pm – Vehicle taken from a driveway on Turney Rd. while complainant was out of town.  The complainant originally wanted to report her vehicle stolen, but thought that her vehicle might be in her friends’ possession. Shaker Hts. PD contacted our department to advise that the female was reporting the vehicle stolen because it was being driven by her boyfriend and was involved in an incident in their city.  On 05-31-14 the complainant advised Officers that her vehicle was never stolen and that she knew she was trying to file a false police report because her boyfriend was in a hit-skip accident in Shaker Hts. Complainant was issued  a misdemeanor summons for falsification.  Shaker Hts was advised of  this information for the hit-skip incident.

10:24pm – Security at a Brunswick Ave. home reported a hall motion sensor alarm. The homeowners, who were not home requested to have officers notified and to check the residence.  Officers reported that forced entry was made through a rear door and the suspect attempted to stop the alarm by removing the panel.  Items taken consisted of electronics.  There are no suspects at this time.

May 31, 2014

Noise disturbance calls: 6

1:16am – Employee from Weave Lounge on Warrensville Ctr. Rd. reported that patrons are complaining of a male in the parking lot with a gun and he will not leave. At the same time of this call, an officer reported hearing two gunshots in the area and noticed a car window was shattered in the alley next to the bar. A male matching the description of the subject was seen leaving on a bike. The suspect was stopped on Mountville Ave.  One arrest was made and the suspect also has a warrant with Garfield Hts.

    When is somebody on council going to submit legislation to reduce the number of bars in the city?
