Policing Maple Heights

On Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 7:45 PM there was a shooting at 5054 Warrensville Center (near where it intersects Maple Heights Blvd). There were two groups in the area and an 18 year old black male was shot and died. Maple Heights Police have made 5 arrests in connection with the incident. The investigation is ongoing.


November 25, 2013

12:15am – Male states there was a  solicitor at his door and he was unsure if they had a permit. The subject was soliciting for IGS Energy and was advised that a permit was necessary. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

5:15pm — Criminal damaging at 21640 Libby where tires were slashed on a vehicle. There are no suspects.

5:50pm – Theft of a generator, power washer, air tools,and hand tools from a garage on Shirley Ave.


November 26, 2013

11:30am – Burglary on Longview Ave. – Black male in blue vest knocked on the door of the home, then broke in. He was fled when he realized that someone was home and had not answered the door. He left behind evidence the police were able to send to the crime lab.


November 28, 2013

1:47am – Resident of Saxony Apartments on Maple Hts. Blvd. Reported 3 males trying to break into cars. 2 males were arrested and the third had an outstanding warrant.

8:17pm – Resident came home (Waterbury Ave.) and discovered her home had been vandalized.

9:35pm – Burglary on Grant Ave.

November 29, 2013

5pm – A call came in from Grasmere Ave. reporting that a black male wearing a blue & white coat and black pants was walking in the middle of the road. When the caller honked her horn at him he pulled up his coat and displayed a gun in the waistband of his pants. The police arrested the male who threw the gun away from him under the porch of a nearby home when the police were arresting him. The gun was loaded.


November 30, 2013

5:35am – A passer-by on Grasmere Ave. reported a low hanging wire. After the Fire Department was dispatched, another call was made to inform them that it looked like someone had crashed into a telephone pole as it was knocked over as well. The responding officer located a broken off VIN on the scene and the vehicle was located down the street. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for OVI and hit-skip.

11pm – Subject stated that someone had stolen all the hubcaps from her vehicle while she was at work in Southgate USA.

10:45pm – Two neighbors from Krems Ave. reported a group of 30 kids fighting and some were driving over the lawns. Some teens were cited for loud music, trespassing and males with warrants were taken into custody.

December 1, 2013

3pm – Theft from auto on Franklin Road.

8pm – An unattended Chevy Impala had been left running in the driveway of a Libby Road home for quite some time. No one had been seen around the car, there was no answer at the door and dispatch was unable to locate contact information on the resident. The vehicle was turn off and secured and keys brought to the police station.

9:30pm – A Catherine Street resident reported that her Christmas decorations were taken out of her yard and thrown in the street and damaged. There are no suspects.

Urban Mining:

Over the past week vacant properties on South Blvd, Libby, Maple Heights Blvd, Jefferson Road, Mountville Drive were broken into and copper plumbing stolen. Two of the homes the water was left running. In one home the police were able to turn off the water, but for the other home Cleveland Water had to come and turn off water at the street.
