After pointless (pun intended) first quarter, the Mustangs scored the first touchdown, in the second quarter, during the game against Euclid. At halftime the game was tied 6-6. In the third quarter Euclid pulled ahead, with a second touchdown. After a 41 yard touch down run by#4 Mustang, Curtis Brown, the game was once again tied, but Euclid pulled ahead with a 45 yard touchdown pass. The loss to Euclid ended the Mustangs chance for a berth in the play-offs. The Mustangs are 4-5 overall and 3-3 in the league.
The Mustangs will play their last game of the season at home in Stafford Stadium against rival Bedford at 2 PM on Saturday, November 2, 2013. While the Mustangs themselves can no longer make it to the play-offs, this last game is important to Bedford. A loss to the Mustangs will keep them out of the play-offs.
Saturday’s game is “Senior Night”. The Senior Football players will be recognized pre-game and the senior Cheerleaders and Band members during halftime
This game which will close the Stafford Stadium era–it will be the last (varsity) football game in Stafford Stadium. To commemorate the last game all alumni of Maple Heights have been invited to participate in an “alumni tunnel” which the Mustangs will run through as they enter the field. Participants in the “alumni tunnel” are asked to arrive at the field by 1:30. After the game the field where they once played or cheered or marched will be open to alumni for photographs.
Next year the mustangs will be playing at a new field located on Mustang Way, adjacent to the new high school and Wylie Athletic Center. Stafford Stadium will remain, being re-purposed as the middle school stadium. More on that in an upcoming article.
