Last night, residents in the northwest corner of Maple were without power from 7-10pm. The extra load from all the AC units running (it was hot!) caused one of the transformers at the substation at the east end of the Libby Road bridge to fail.
Today, repair crews are installing a new transformer at the substation. As you may see in the photos, the crews have been there a while, waiting for the high-power (36,000 volt) supply lines to be shut off. Service will not be interrupted during the replacement.
The old transformer will eventually be rebuilt. A crewmember said that transformer failure is a normal part of operations.
